From the Chairperson
Our department accepted its first students in 1993 and had its first graduates in 1997. In the same year, our department accepted the first candidates for master's and doctorate education programmes. In 1994, students started to be accepted to the undergraduate secondary education. Today, our department contributes to education and training with 4 Professors, 7 Associate Professors, 8 Assistant Professors, 7 Research Assistants and 2 Project Resarch Assistants. There are 5 divisions in our department. These are Machine Theory and Dynamics, Mechanics, Construction and Manufacturing, Thermodynamics and Heat Technique and Energy divisions.
In order to establish a continuous improvement cycle and to identify and correct our deficiencies from the perspective of independent institutions, MÜDEK accreditation was applied for as a department in 2008. The undergraduate formal education program of our department is accredited. Our aim is to increase the quality of undergraduate education day by day and to create a continuous improvement cycle. To ensure that our graduates can produce new and original designs by using their basic knowledge of engineering. Our goal is for our graduates to be qualified employees sought in the industry. Our students were encouraged to participate in the Solar Powered Vehicle and Robot competitions by forming a team, and significant successes were achieved.
While technological developments continue rapidly, design and analysis programs are taught to our students in undergraduate education because our students do not fall behind in the face of this development. A thermal design project, a mechanical design project and an application project are given to our students at the undergraduate level. In design projects, it is tried to give our students the ability to work in groups as well as scientific and professional contribution.
While our department aims at a good undergraduate education, it also attaches great importance to scientific studies and graduate education. Relations with industry and joint projects continue to increase. Our numerous publications in scientific journals scanned by the Science Citation Index Expanded database and the citations to these publications are the most important indicators of this. In a study conducted by Çukurova University Mechanical Engineering Department in 2001 and 2002, our department ranked first among all Mechanical Engineering departments in our country in the average number of SCI articles per faculty member. Based on the data announced on the YÖK website, our department ranked eighth among all mechanical engineering departments in 2005, and fifth in 2006, according to the average SCI article per faculty member in 2005. Our department consists of young, dynamic and active academic staff. Academicians who graduated from our doctoral program work as faculty members in different universities of our country. Another indicator of our scientific performance is the numerous TÜBİTAK, DPT, SANTEZ, TEYDEB and BAP projects that have been concluded and carried out in the department.
Our department started to implement the 'Double Major Program' and 'Minor Program' mutually with the Industrial Engineering Department of our University in the 2011-2012 academic year.
While continuing our internationally qualified studies in scientific research, we will also continue our efforts to increase the quality of undergraduate and graduate education with determination.
